Save the street children
Street children and child labour
Child labour represents a phenomenon on which the public and institutional attention is very little focused, even if the consequences on child's development and health are very serious.
Child labour exploitation does not mean any implication of the child in economical activities, but it appears when the child is at a very young age (under 12 years old) or when the duration of labour exceeds a certain number of hours a week or if it presents certain risks.
According to the estimations of the National Institute of Statistics from 2004, in Romania there are aproximatively 70.000 children who work. Most of them are from rural areas, forced by their parents to contribute to housekeeping activities (working in the field, with the animals or in their own houses), but there are also children who work in the cities. These are children from Roma families, who beg together with their parents or children from families with dificult economical situations forced, by working, to contribute in suppporting their families. The children are from families with numerous members, with difficult socio - economical situation and with low educational level. The family relationships are marked by the worries of surrviving and by the mentality that children should help to surpas financial difficulties.
School abandonment, low educational and professional level, social exclusion, phisical and psychical abuses that are involved in child labour and economical exploitation, but, also, the big dimension of the phenomenon are only a few factors that proove the necesity of adopting more efficient measures of fighting this.

Îmi este evident de mult timp că viaţa mea - a noastră - are o structură narativă (chiar şi acum în vacanţă!), iar ceea ce trăiesc eu acum se cheamă o intrigă cel puţin interesantă (dacă ar fi să mă gândesc la proverbul chinez), dar aceasta este o altă discuţie.Ceea ce mă intrigă de cele mai multe ori este senzaţia că nu sunt singurul povestitor, singurul făcător al propriei vieţi şi - în mod paradoxal - această observaţie, în loc să mă facă mai puţin responsabil (nu sunt singurul sofer de la volanul propriei maşini), mă face totuşi mai înclinat către atenţie şi responsabilitate. Dacă nu sunt singur la volan şi nu-l cunosc pe celălalt, atunci viaţa mea nu se află doar în propriile mâini.
Sunt mai multe mâini care îmi construiesc propria poveste. Sunt mâinile strămoşilor mei, sunt mâinile acelor oameni care trăiau în peşteri şi le era frică de întuneric, sunt mâinile bunicilor, ale părinţilor, ale profesorilor, ale oamenilor pe care i-am cunoscut şi ale oamenilor pe care urmează să-i cunosc.
Port în mine ingrediente misterioase, iar senzaţia de alegere de multe ori se mută în altă parte. Senzaţia că o întâmplare mă alege, că o pasiune sau o vocaţie se îndreaptă spre mine cu o viteză mai mare decât mă îndrept eu spre ele. Cineva a pus în mine lucruri încă înainte de-a mă naşte.
Dacă eu sunt o sumă de alegeri care se întâmplă indiferent dacă sunt sau nu de faţă, responsabilitatea mea se lărgeşte în loc să se îngusteze. Sunt responsabil şi de alegerile pe care nu le-am făcut, dar totuşi mă reprezintă.
Epoca mă reprezintă, ţara mă reprezintă, familia mă reprezintă, nu i-am ales eu, dar - din nou - responsabilitatea nu stă doar în actul alegerii. Responsabilitatea stă în asumare, iar uneori trebuie să ne asumăm şi alegerile altora, indiferent că se petrec acum sau au avut loc înainte de-a ne naşte.
A băga capul în nisip înseamnă iluzionarea că doar alegerile noastre ne privesc. Sunt alegeri la care nu am fost consultaţi, însă care ne implică personal şi pe care trebuie să ni le asumăm dacă dorim să creştem.
Probabil dorinţa de-a lăsa ceva în urma noastră îşi are rădăcinile în forţa acelor alegeri ni s-au întâmplat înainte de-a ne naşte, în faţa noastră.
